Jamaica
The beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica offers lush green mountain landscapes, white sand beaches, crystal blue water, and a setting for romance and relaxation. Here’s the home of reggae music and delicious jerk chicken. Jamaica has several resort areas within easy distance from the Montego Bay airport, with accommodations ranging from basic to ultra-luxury. Many resorts, whether family-friendly or adults only, are all-inclusive.
Resorts are in several distinct areas:
- Montego Bay is Jamaica’s second-largest city and considered the hub of Jamaican tourism. Music festivals, Rose Hall Mansion, and golf courses.
- Ocho Rios, east of Montego Bay, with lush mountains in the background and white sandy beaches. Don’t miss Dunn’s River Falls.
- Negril is west of Montego Bay and famous for its calm water, perfect white sand beach, and sunsets. Visit Rick’s for a drink and to watch the cliff diving.
- Trelawney/Runaway Bay, situated between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, you’ll find quiet, laid-back resorts and pristine beaches.
- Southern Coast, remote and furthest from the airport, this is ideal if you want to really get away from it all.
How to get there: Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) receives over 9 million travelers per year. Jamaica has another airport in Kingston, but it is a further distance to reach the resort areas. You can also visit Jamaica on a Caribbean cruise, with ports in Falmouth (near Montego Bay) and Ocho Rios.
While most resorts are all inclusive, you’ll want to venture away from the resort to explore a bit of the island. Plan your activities based on the area you are staying in. There are waterfalls, rafting, sunset cruises, swimming with the dolphins, scuba diving, hiking, and zip lining—just to name a few excursions available.
All-inclusive resorts provide your meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, snacks, some water sports, and entertainment as part of your vacation package. This makes for an easy and worry-free vacation without the hassle of paying as you go.
