Express Cross the
Alps from North to South (or reverse) in style! The Bernina and Heidi
Express offer breath-taking vistas from teh 1st and 2nd class panorama
cars. Ride over graceful viaducts, through galleries hewn into the sheer
rock, through switch-back tunnels, along rushing mountain streams, glaciers,
and even an alpine garden. The train climbs up to the 7400-foot pass of
the Bernina without the help of a rack-and-pinion mechanisim. The entire
trip is narrated. In summer, an optional bus connects Tirano (Italy) to
Lugano. |

Tell Express The William
Tell Express connects the German-speaking Central Switzerland to the Italian-speaking
part. The trip starts out on a 1st class histoic paddle steamer plyaing
the deep blue waters of Lake Lucerne. On board, enjoy an elegant three-course
lunch. In Fluelen, switch to a panorama train which will either bring
you to Lugano or to Locarno. The train goes through the St. Gotthard mountain
range, where a series of impressive switch-back tunnels will bring you
up the mountain. The William Tell Express only operates from North to
South. For return trip use scheduled trains which depart on an hourly
basis. |
