Article: Walt Disney World: Wilderness Lodge
>Return to Family Articles Page

Wilderness Lodge, located on Walt Disney World property, is one of my favorite resorts. The themeing, in the spirit of a Pacific Northwest lodge, is convincing even in the middle of Florida. I've stayed here twice, and loved it both times.

Rustic Rooms
You'll find all the amenities of a luxury resort in the rooms. The rustic, lodge-type theming is superb in the room, along with ample bathroom space.

Public Spaces the Best Feature
The lobby area is spectacular, at least three stories high. There's lots of American Indian styled artistry to admire. Plenty of cushiony furniture to relax in. Taking a stroll around the pool, you will notice the 'rapids,' an elaborate river splashing over Disney-crafted rocks. There's even Old Faithful. With so much 'wilderness' atmosphere, this is one of the most relaxing Disney resort pools.

Slightly off the Beaten Path
True, you are at a Disney property, but you're not near the monorail, and the bus service is convoluted (depending on destination). On the bright side, you've got a great view of the lake (the woody backside of it). If you don't mind the hike, you can walk to Contemporary Resort, but there's no path and you're daring traffic. However, there's a boat launch here, making up for the monorail and bus service.

One of the Best Park Restaurants
Artist's Point is an upscale Pacific Rim restaurant. You'll find excellent salmon. Kid's menus are the same here as you'll find in the other sit-down Disney resort restaurants. Now, I do believe the quality has slipped in the 10 or so years since they opened, but it remains one of the best restaurants WDW has to offer. Try the sampler appetizer, and you'll be in heaven. Also, there's an extensive wine list of some hard to find Northwest labels.

Next door is a more informal restaurant, roughly BBQ style. We had lunch here once, and the kids really enjoyed themselves. Service is genuine, and you'll be reminded of 50's-style Western shows.

We are located in in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, serving clients globally.
